Color Doppler vs normal ultrasound
Greyscale ultrasound shows anatomy. Color Doppler adds a map of blood-flow direction and pattern. They are complementary modes on modern ultrasound systems — not always two different machines.
When Doppler is added
- Limb arterial or venous questions as referred
- Scrotal pain pathways when ordered
- Neck vessel assessments on clinical request
- Selected obstetric Doppler indications decided by the obstetrician
What you may notice during the scan
You might hear pulse-like sounds when spectral Doppler is sampled — that is normal. Gel and probe pressure are similar to ordinary ultrasound; more time may be spent on specific vessel segments.
Obstetric ethics
Pregnancy-related Doppler follows medical indications only. This centre is PCPNDT compliant. Fetal sex determination is not performed.
Preparation
Follow the instruction on your booking. Some vascular studies have position or clothing requirements; limb Doppler may need access to the full leg or arm.
Reports
A hard-copy report is usually ready within 15–20 minutes after the scan. Soft copies can be downloaded from the Reports page with your Patient ID for 3 days after upload — please save the file to your device.
