Follicular monitoring explained
Follicular monitoring is a series of pelvic ultrasound scans across a cycle when a fertility specialist needs to see how ovarian follicles are growing. The calendar is set by that clinician’s protocol, not by the imaging centre alone.
Why serial visits
A single scan is a snapshot. Serial measurements show the trend — information used to time medicines or procedures. Missing a scheduled day can reduce the value of the series; call if you must reschedule.
Transabdominal vs transvaginal
Depending on clinical need and body habitus, one or both approaches may be used. Staff explain the steps; a chaperone policy and privacy are maintained.
Preparation
Often little fasting is required. A partially full bladder may help transabdominal views. Wear comfortable clothing and arrive on time — slots are tightly scheduled in monitoring programmes.
After each visit
Measurements go to your fertility doctor for decisions.
Reports
A hard-copy report is usually ready within 15–20 minutes after the scan. Soft copies can be downloaded from the Reports page with your Patient ID for 3 days after upload — please save the file to your device.
