Gallbladder stones and ultrasound
Ultrasound is the standard first imaging test for suspected gallstones because it visualises the gallbladder well without radiation.
Why fasting helps
A fasting gallbladder is distended with bile, improving stone and wall assessment. Food triggers contraction and more bowel gas.
Symptoms that lead to scans
Post-meal right upper abdominal pain, nausea, or abnormal liver tests may prompt referral — your doctor decides.
After the report
Not every stone needs surgery; management depends on symptoms and clinical judgement.
