When CT may be requested

Trauma work-up, detailed bone or chest questions, selected abdominal problems, or follow-up as directed by your doctor. CT uses ionising radiation; clinical benefit should justify the study. Read CT vs ultrasound and radiation safety.

Preparation & contrast

• Some exams need fasting or oral/IV contrast — only when ordered
• Tell staff about kidney disease, allergies, possible pregnancy or diabetes medicines
• Remove metal from the scan region when asked
• Bring referral, ID and prior imaging for comparison
